Hospital Care

Riverdale Pediatric Dentistry is proud to offer hospital dentistry as an option for children. Most medical plans cover hospital care if the child is under 5 years, diagnosed with special needs or has an extensive treatment plan. Our friendly staff is also available to assist you if you decide to go to the hospital.

Our doctors are credentialed at Children's Hospital of Minneapolis and Minnetonka and Mercy Same Day Surgery Center, Elk Ridge.

The websites for these facilities are listed below and can be of great help in navigating the roads and parking plans for your Outpatient procedure.

Please READ:
Steps in the Scheduling of a Patient for Hospital Dentistry:

  1. The parent contacts their Medical Insurance carrier to ask whether they will cover General Anesthesia and the Facilities Fees for Dental work. This is not Dental Surgery.
  2. We send out an Estimate for the Dental Insurance Carrier electronically. It may take up to 3 weeks to receive a response from them. This will tell us what your estimated patient portion will be for the procedures to be performed. Once we know this, we will collect your estimated patient portion and we will schedule your procedure with the hospital.
  3. You must call and schedule a "Pre-Op physical" with your child's medical physician. This MUST be within 7 days of the scheduled procedure date.
  4. The hospital will call and confirm with you 24 hours before the procedure and give instructions for any preparations you need to make before your arrival time.

Please note! If your child was not able to complete xrays please be aware that the estimate for dental services may not include all treatment determined to be necessary at the OR. These procedures require substantial time for us to arrange, therefore we ask for 2-3 days notice if they must be rescheduled or cancelled. This will allow another child in need to take your place if you must cancel. We understand that some circumstances change suddenly, but we ask for as much notice as you can give us if changes need to be made.

There is a $150 fee for hospital appointments cancelled with less than 48hrs notice.

Please call if you have any further questions about this process and speak to our front office staff at 763.767.1524 or email us at Hospital@cavitypatrol.com
